Polyester continuous filament geotextile is a permeable synthetic material made from polyester (PET) filaments through a needle-punching process. It is known as an "all-rounder" in geotechnical and civil engineering.

If unidirectional geogrids are the "steel bars" of the soil, then polyester continuous filament geotextile is more like the "skin" and "filter" of the soil.

Working Principle

Polyester filament geotextiles function primarily through the following four mechanisms:

Filtration: When water flows from a fine-grained soil layer to a coarse-grained soil layer, the filament geotextile utilizes its excellent air and water permeability to allow water to pass through while effectively trapping soil particles, fine sand, and small stones, preventing soil erosion.

Drainage: It acts as an excellent water-conducting pathway. It forms drainage channels within the soil mass, removing excess liquid and gas from the soil structure and reducing pore water pressure.

Separation: It prevents the mixing of two different soil or material components (such as subgrade soil and gravel base course). This maintains the structural integrity and function of each material.

Reinforcement & Protection: Utilizing its high tensile strength, it improves the tensile strength and deformation resistance of the soil. It is also often placed under a geomembrane to prevent sharp stones from puncturing the membrane.

Application

Due to its acid and alkali resistance, aging resistance, and high strength, it is widely used in:

1、Hydraulic Engineering: Seepage prevention and filtration for reservoir dams, riverbank protection.

2、Road Construction Engineering: Subgrade support for highways and railways, preventing reflective cracking of pavement.

3、Environmental Engineering: Subgrade protection for landfills and tailings dams (used in conjunction with geomembranes).

4、Soft Soil Foundation Treatment: Providing a reinforced base when constructing on silty soils.
